Tomorrow marks the end of Christmas break for our beloved Aztec basketball team as they look to spoil Sam Houston State's 11-0 season. Aztecs are currently 9-3, and I think it would be spectacular if we could get a nice home win before we go into conference play next Saturday (Jan. 5).
Says goaztecs.com:
"Sam Houston State has been winning ballgames by an average of 17.2 points, while limiting its opponents to below 34 percent shooting from the field and less than 26 percent from beyond the arc. Among its 10 wins was a signature victory over Texas Tech, 56-54, and a win over Fresno State, 68-57, both at home. For the season, SHSU is 3-0 on the road with decisions over Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Saint Louis and Texas Southern. This is the first-ever meeting between the schools and the first meeting for the Aztecs vs. a Southland Conference member since the 2001-02 season when they took on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi."
Personally, I could care less about the statistics. As far as I'm concerned, SHSU is just another team that has yet to feel the wrath of the Aztec Empire. I'm going to miss not being able to throw off my shirt and stomp around when Kyle Spain and Lo Wade drop a bomb on Sam Houston himself. The term "Southland Conference" is about as intimidating as the single-ply toilet paper they keep at Cox Arena.
Hopefully a few Epsilon men can head to the game. I'd be there, but I'm a bit stuck 150 miles to the north. I guess that's the way it is sometimes. I'll be watching some college football with my dad and eating wings and drinking ginger ale. As punishment for such lazy dieting, I'm sure to get an indigestion.
GLORY GLORY MIGHT AZTECS.
